Spring Break 2017: Things To Do

Olivia Smith, Staff Writer

With Prep students comes busy schedules, competitive spring sports, and never ending tests, projects, and homework assignments. This year’s spring break falls during the week of April 16, which has students exhausted and anticipating the upcoming break.

A week off of school gives opportunities to do things one isn’t able to do during a normal week and Prep students prepare far in advance for what to do. Many students like to leave chilly Seattle to relax in the sun at tropical destinations such as Hawaii, Mexico, or California while others take this week as an opportunity to catch up on sleep and Netflix by laying low at home. When asked about her plans for the break, Anisha Patton ’17 responded excitedly, ” I’m going to Discovery Bay on the peninsula of Washington! I go every year and there’s an amazing view of the Straight of Juan de Fuca. There are so many outdoor activities to engage in and many tourist attractions to view.”

While Anisha will be embracing the PNW lifestyle, Gianna Patchen ’17 will be immersing herself in the Southern culture by attending the New Orleans service trip with other Prep students.

For those who will be stuck in Seattle for the break, there’s no reason to be bummed, as there are still plenty of things to do. One could be a tourist for a day and go to all the cool sites that they never get around to on a normal day, like visiting the Gum Wall in Pike Place Market, taking a ride on the Great Wheel, or going up in the Space Needle for a meal. If the weather is looking nice, Lake Washington is a great lake to go swimming, boating, or even paddle boarding. If the weather is gloomy, having a movie night with friends or family is a great alternative – buy some yummy treats, and have a comfy night in!
